Getting the Most out of Road Trip MPG

Road trip season is upon us. Whether you’re visiting family, the mountains, the beach, a theme park, or some other adventure, costs can add up quickly. Before you embark on your next road trip, give the following road trip MPG tips a try. Maximizing your MPG will save you money at the pump, which in turn will give you more money to spend on fun activities.

Tire Pressure:
Underinflated tires lower your MPG and cost you money, as well as wear out your tires faster and unevenly. Tire pressure changes as the temperature outside changes. So, even if you had your tire pressure checked last month, make sure to check your tire pressure before you embark on your road trip. Adjust the tire pressure as needed.

Filters:
Dirty air and oil filters are the biggest causes for lower MPG. Before you leave on your trip, make sure your air filter is clean and you’ve changed your oil filter. Your MPG and wallet will thank you.

Clean Under the Hood
Clean up all debris, leaves, dust, and other foreign objects that don’t belong under the hood of your vehicle. Disintegrated leaves and other dirt can clog radiators, which in turn can cause overheating. It can also cause poor A/C performance and also clog your air filter, which will hurt your MPG. So, before you leave, make sure you clean under your hood.

The certified technicians at Lubricar Jiffy Lube are also here to help you prepare for your road trip adventures.
