Tips to Improve Fuel Economy

The easiest and most effective way to improve fuel economy is to modify your driving habits.  Improving fuel economy is relatively simple and will reduce the amount of gas you use and help save you money.  Here are some tips from fueleconomy.gov:

Drive Sensibly
Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration, braking) wastes gas. 
 
Observe the Speed Limit
Gas mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 50 mph. 
 
Avoid Hauling Cargo on Your Roof
Opt for a rear-mount cargo box rather than a roof-top model.  Hauling cargo on your roof increases wind resistance and lowers fuel economy.  In addition, if you need to use an external cargo container, remove it when not in use.  
 
Remove Excess Weight
Avoid keeping unnecessary items in your vehicle, especially heavy ones. 
 
Avoid Excess Idling
Turn off your engine when your vehicle is parked.  Idling can use a ¼ to ½ gallon of fuel per hour. 
 
Use Cruise Control
Using cruise control on the highway helps you maintain a constant speed and, in most cases, will save gas.
 
Perform Regular Preventive Maintenance

Keep tires properly inflated, use the recommended grade of motor oil and replace dirty air filters.
